Nearly 2 years of regular sculling

The collars/sleeves on my oars are getting a bit rounded and the stabilizers are off all the time now. I've been reading a delightful little book "With Two Oars" by William B Irvine (About $9 on Amazon) - in it he focuses on "set". I think this is huge. He has some great exercises to cure flipophobia which he thinks is the root of all bad technique. I tend to agree! Great read.

The Oartec Slider is installed next to the wife's elliptical and I've had a couple of goes so far - trying to calibrate it to feel like the Edon which of course has a bit more drag than a 1x. The Florida summer is well and truly here and the option of air-conditioned rows if I get up too late is great. It's not the same as on-the-water though - I'm very fortunate to be able to launch in my back yard.

We are consideering the Edon shell. Can one get in it without getting one's feet wet?

Thanks

oh yes dry feet! - I have a little floating dock I use. When I started out I’d rest one of the floats on the dock and hop in then just lean away to raise the float and push off. It’s even easier when you take the floats off.
Sometimes we go to a sandy beach and there if it is shelving, you have to get wet.

Thinking of Edon purchase. Encouraging, enjoyable and watchable YouTube and readable blog - thanks! Spoke to Roger and while 240 pounds is the manufacturer- specified weight limit (as for some other hull makers) he indicated that somewhat heavier people can use it successfully and implied it would not impose undue stress on the design. 240 is my “aspirational” weight but I am 260 at present and 6 feet tall. I have verified top 25 times and a Sprint medal in age group on the ERG but coach for intro to sculling, a highly experienced one, in initial on-water rowing, indicated waist size (which is 46) presented technique as well as boat stability issues and suggested weight loss. Obviously 20 pounds of weight loss is not an overnight thing and I’m already quite fit as indicated by ERG success. Any thought to the extent that you appear to be a bigger guy yourself?
